Ewen McGregor signed up for `The Man Who Killed Don Quixote`
The Scottish actor was confirmed by director Terry Gilliam to have taken the role originally given to Johnny Depp 10 years ago in a version later shelved.
Gilliam told Empire Online: "Ewen has got better over the years. He was wonderful in `The Ghost`. There`s a lot of colours to Ewan that he`s not been showing recently and it`s time for him to show them again. He`s got a great sense of humour and he`s a wonderful actor.
"He`s wonderfully boyish and can be charming - when he flashes a smile, everybody melts."
The movie tells the tale of a modern day advertising executive who is sent back to 17th century Spain and meets fictional adventurer Quixote.
Although Depp had been rumoured to be taking on the role in this film, a September start date meant it clashed with filming of `Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides` and he was unable to work on the project.
Robert Duvall has also been cast in the movie.
`The Man Who Killed Don Quixote` is due for release in 2011.
